Eco-Runner/Walker Theme a HUGE Success in Carlsbad!

First of all, let me just extend a giant thank you to Keep California Beautiful, Christine Flowers, Burning Man, InMotion Events, the city of Carlsbad, Running Centers, the Carlsbad Marathon, and all of its participants for making the Eco-Runner/Walker concept a HUGE success! I could not have done this without you! Each and every person involved believed in my vision and made it a reality. For this I am truly grateful.

The Carlsbad Marathon proved to be a great first attempt and together we plan to take it to the next level in 2009! There have been nothing but positive things being said about the Eco-Runner program. People loved it and were glad to see it implemented. I think we have really started something that will change how we, as runners and walkers think about a basic responsibility, our trash, our PR (Personal Responsiblity). Altogether, about 700 runners signed up to be official Eco-Runners/Walkers; a total of 7% of the field. Undoubtedly, we left the course cleaner that when we arrived last week. It was a huge success and plans are in action to export the concept to other races.

Personally, I had a wonderful experience in Carlsbad. To see others as passionate about Eco-Running as I was made the trip totally inspiring. I ran a 3:37 eco-marathon; picking up a total of 28 trash bags of garbage along the way, and of course, making sure "only my feet hit the ground." The enthusiasm for the concept was unparalleled! Many supportive runners cheered me on as I picked up rubbish along the way. Thank you! I have a few pics attached to this post, and many more action shots to come. Keep checking back for the latest news and info. Things are going to start taking off! Cheers, all!

Run 4 more!

The finish line @ Carlsbad...always a welcome site after 26.2!

Takin' a breather after my eco-marathon.

There's my crew!

Re-fueling and hydrating...eco-style.

So good....
